Pseudofolliculitis Barbae

Skin irritations and redness, often accompanied by the inflammation of ingrown hair. Burning and itching are the unpleasant companions of the problem. It's also called "razor burn". Shaving burns become a medical issue when there is a long-term inflammation of the hair follicles. This occurs when cut hair does not grow straight outwards but under the skin – this problem particularly affects people with naturally curly and thick hair.

The most conspicuous problem area is the neck. Small papules and pustules similar to bacterial folliculitis develop. Scarring may eventually occur.
